Wedding Dress Colors

Probably the most exciting and fun part of planning your wedding is choosing your very own wedding dress color. Some brides would want to express their personality with their choice of color. Others would simply show off their favorite color. In the simplest of words, personal preferences play a great role in choosing a wedding dress color. It is said that a bride’s dress not only represents herself but also her family’s expression.

The first thing to consider when choosing your dress color is your skin tone. If you have fair complexion, ivory shades and warm colors are best for you. A white wedding dress will make you look invisible. If you have medium type of skin with pink undertones, the best choice is shades of cream. If you have medium skin but with yellow undertones, you would look better in champagne or diamond white dresses. If you have dark skin, most shades of white will look great on you, except when you have yellow undertones.

Wedding dress colors have evolved a lot ever since. White or ivory will forever be a classic and a favorite, though white is considered as a color for mourning in the past. It was said the first bride to wear white on her wedding day was Queen Victoria when she married Prince Albert of Saxe. Since then, brides have been wearing white as they walk down that dainty aisle.

Nowadays, wedding dress colors of new brides have become bolder and daring. Brides nowadays want flashier colors and would like to set themselves apart. The brightest shade of dress color is red. Some want other warm colors to make them look extraordinary and adventurous.

If you are among these imaginative brides-to-be, try choosing a very elegant dress that would look great on your skin, and place accents like a ribbon or a sash that would blend or complement with your color theme. You can also play with style as you have your bridesmaids wear a shade of your favorite color. Just be careful in matching colors so as not to overdo your accents.

I agree with the idea of putting an accent. I feel like a lot of brides would get carried away with their favorite color and allow themselves to put on a bright red dress to match their theme. That’s dangerous not only because of aesthetics, but also because of the image it might produce for all your friends and family that are attending. On your wedding day, yes you are celebrating yourself and your husband, but you’re also presenting yourself to 10s, 100s, or 1000s of your friends, family, co-workers, etc.
